Because I’ve had a creative block lately, I’m using a writing prompt suggested by WordPress:
What is something you wish you could tell your 20-year-old self?
Dear sweet & naive Kathleen,
I’m glad this is text only; you might cringe when you see what you look like in 2026.
Here are some words of wisdom from the future:
- You are more than your mistakes – they do not define you.
- Jesus is merciful and loves you regardless of how much you drink and party (but just stop).
- When belittled – remember that others are trying to make themselves appear superior because they feel small.
- Speak up – don’t let loud opinions silence your voice.
- You have so much to give this world, you are worthy, you are necessary, you are beautiful (you’ll struggle with this one into your 50s), and you are loved. That love comes without the ‘price’ that some boys assign to ‘love’.
- Not all guys are narcissistic, selfish, socially inept, and vile asses. Don’t settle.
Much of this advice has been learned through therapy – ignore those who tell you to ‘suck it up’, therapy leads to healing.
Also, regarding the last point about vile asses:
There is a man that God has created just for you. He will be your best friend, your faithful & loving spouse, and become an awesome father to your two beautiful daughters who are amazing! He will challenge you to be a better woman, wife, mother, and faithful Catholic. He will place you first, and will love & care for you until death (that’s the goal, you just bought a headstone).
Keep an eye out for a guy named Jerry. 😉
PS: Go back to Church. Jesus has been waiting for you.
PPS: the Powerball for Nov 7, 2022 will be worth 2.04 billion (yes, with a b). Play 10 – 33 – 41 – 47 – 56 + PB: 10
God Bless!
Your 59 year old self,
